Swift characterisation – make one detail count.

A piece of flash fiction is not a movie. The reader cannot see Jack Sparrow, as much as you would like to spend your 500 words describing him to them. You get one word to characterise any character in your fiction, so make it count. To do this quick and well, focus on the one detail that sets this character apart, then make it vivid and memorable. Nothing more.
